Bacán! Created in Chile in 2012, the Ensamble Transatlántico de Folk Chileno plays a range of innovative original compositions based on traditional Chilean Folk music all over the world! Soon they will be in Tokyo as a 15 member group! Once described as “a vibrant demonstration of how to keep traditional rhythms and instrumentation sounding fresh” they will surely be a special treat for Tokyo. Creado en Chile en 2012, el «Ensamble transatlántico de Folk Chileno» es un proyecto musical que interpreta composiciones originales basadas en ritmos tradicionales presentes en Chile, mezclando instrumentos originales latinoamericanos, clásicos y pertenecientes a la música popular.
 Y eso no es todo! Support groups こでらんに～ (Coderanny, who just played Fuji Rock 2023!) and Santa Dharma are on the bill! Coderanny is a 4 member Minyo group formed in 2018. Minyo is a style of Japanese folk singing. Expect a modern twist of shamisen, shinobue (a Japanese traditional flute), ohayashi (a musical accompaniment), Taiko (drums), and vocals! フレディ塚本(民謡唄い手)、秋山和久(津軽三味線)その後ミカド香奈子(篠笛)、ちゃんゆか(お囃子・太鼓)からなる民謡ユニット。
2018年に結成後、コロナ禍の2021年夏「民謡交換プロジェクト」の発足を機に4人での活動を本格化。その場にいる誰もが口ずさみ、思わず踊りだしたくなる民謡をモットーに、ライブやフェスへの出演や、海外アーティストとのセッションまで、幅広く活動中。 Santa Dharma: a husband-wife music duo whose psychedelic synth-pop sound transcends genres such as lo-fi, new wave, and experimental pop (incluso canciones en español!) “We often will hear music and think, Oh, this really reminds us of ourselves and then we’ll look and it’s late 70s disco or afrobeat or something. We do definitely take from a lot of different genres...” And “…punk. I like that do-it-yourself spirit and we play by ourselves, record by ourselves. We do everything by ourselves.” To create their unique sound, they need a wide range of musical instruments including a 60s drum machine, tin-can ukulele, synthesizers, Omnichord, and an 80s Casio keyboard plus a little help from MIDI syncing and live looping. The venue 7th Floor in Shibuya will be a great spot for these talented performers. The venue is a host to a wide variety of musical acts and is a spacious and comfy spot plus there is an outdoor balcony overlooking the city of Shibuya, the bustling center of Tokyo’s nightlife. Great for end of the summer drinks! And nice prices too! You can always find musicians and artists hanging out there. The DJ keeping the rhythm of the event will be Tequila Ayana from Tokyo’s instrumental progressive punk band The Devils&Libido! She is a big fan of Latin music and culture and always plays those good mood tracks (también habla español!). Renegade Kitchen (one part head brewer of Kaigan Brewery affiliated with craft beer bar Coaster) will be serving special Latin inspired dishes to compliment the evening. You can catch them doing pop-ups at various events around Tokyo. Berlin Party Tokyo is helping to put this all together. Normally we are doing free events every Thursday, but once in a while we work with friends to put on weekend events.
