"Kai" is a heroic epic poem that has been passed down by shamans in the Altai Republic of the Russian Federation, a deep mountain country also known as the Pearl of Asia. Buried in the history of Altai, this song is also known as a secret dream, and only those with the chosen talent can sing it. In the past, it was sung over many nights with an earth-shaking ultra-low pitch. The unique singing style, which makes full use of overtones, is also similar to Mongolian "khoomei" and Tuvan "khoomei." Kai, which was on the verge of disappearing into history, has now gained the great singer Bolot Bairyshev, a Russian superstar representing the Altai Republic, and is attracting worldwide attention as a new form of vocal art. This is the first performance in Japan by "Turk Kabay(meaning Cradle of Turks)," a notable unit he formed with two young singers.Musician Koichi Makigami, who practices the throat singing form of khoomei from the neighboring Republic of Tuva, and percussionist Masaharu Sato will perform together, revealing their encounter with and path to the rich music of the Turkic peoples.
